HG6603 Here is a classic Smith & Wesson .38 Special Military & Police revolver, numbered model 10-5, that manufactured in 1967, from its C820000 range serial number. It is a Bangor Punta era, pinned barrel specimen. Specifications are 4 inch Standard “pencil” barrel with black ramp front sight and fixed notch rear sight; Square butt grip frame serrated fore and aft; .265 Color Casehardened serrated Service Trigger and matching Serrated Spur Hammer; magna style factory Goncalo service grips; six shot capacity; 30 1/8 ounces weight empty. Action, of course, is traditional double- and single-action with internal transfer bar safety mechanism. This 10-5 was the service weapon of our first full time African American police officer in our little county. Its owner was also a distinguished veteran of the United States Navy. He served from 1971 until his retirement in the 1980s. This Model 10 has minimal holster and handling wear. Surfaces show very faint edge whitening on the muzzle and grip frame back strap, with very faint cylinder rotation marking. Magna grips are original issue factory Walnut Service Magna type. We classify this Model as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, however, should suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Blast effect to the underside of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is minimal, only two thin lines on the outer area of the top strap. Double action trigger pull is tight but consistent, and the hammer travels an additional 15 degrees in double action after the cylinder times in all six positions. On single action, the hammer travels an additional 30 degrees on all six after timing, and the single action trigger pull is a crisp original 3 5/8 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal, both with the trigger relaxed and with it fully depressed. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures a perfect .007. We estimate that this revolver has been fired fewer than 200 rounds in its entire career, all with standard .38 Special ammunition. His principal weapon was a 4 inch model 15 that he bought new in 1971, so this 10-5 only served for occasional duty. We're offering this attractive, collectable, and eminently serviceable Smith & Wesson Model 10 from 1967 for only $439.00.
