Others may advertise their ammunition’s penetration properties, but here is a number that excels in that department: Aguila Tecnos’s Subsonic Sniper Round with an incredibly heavy 60 grain bullet. Manufacturer is Aguila Tecnos of Cuernavaca, Mexico. Construction is solid brass, sure firing Eley primed cases with some of the cleanest burning powder in the world; and it propels a 60 grain lead round nose bullet at 950 feet per second. Aguila achieved this, as the photos show, by placing the elongated lead bullet in a .22 Short Case. There are credible tests out there where this round achieves 11 to 12 inches of penetration, a crucial factor in many situations. Most rifle barrels have a 1:16 rate of twist. Following heavy bullet theory from 5.56 ammunition, this round works best for accuracy in faster twist barrels, 1:10 – 1:12 vicinity. Muzzle energy is in the 120 foot-pound vicinity. This ammunition has much to commend it for short barreled defensive revolvers and pistols as well. This fine ammunition comes in 50 round boxes, and in 500 round 10 box cartons.
