Piotti Over/Under Monaco #3- CONTESSA ENGRAVED, EXHIBITION WOOD!
The Piotti Over/Under is a superb example of the gunmaker's art in all ways; Boss style action, perfectly struck barrels, all parts made in Piotti's facility, fantastic wood with perfect inletting, engraving that meets or surpasses any in the world. Certainly not the most expensive gun of its type on the planet, but not inexpensive either. This gun, if purchased new today with the upgraded exhibition wood and game scene engraving by Alberto Contessa, would exceed $73,000 and take a year to acquire. This fine Piotti, sn9833 built about 1999, is absolutely AS NEW, WITH NO VISIBLE WEAR INSIDE OR OUT, AND CAN BE HAD FOR A FRACTION OF ORDERING NEW. What a fantastic value we have at hand, and a more attractive, high quality gun would be hard to find. The value of Piotti guns continue to climb, as the cost of new guns goes up so do the gently used guns. What a great investment to admire and shoot.
The 28" barrels retain 99%+ blue, mirror bores, file cut rib, ribs tight, 2 3/4" chambers, choked LM/IM (.016/.027, can be opened to your specs for $90 per barrel), bore diameter .668 both barrels, minimum barrel wall thickness 30 thou bottom, 32 thou top, no dents, dings, or marks, clear sharp lettering and engraving, just perfect in all ways.
The coin finish action is flawless, with perfect screws, very fine English scroll with bouquets and bulino grouse and woodcock on action, top lever deep relief engraved with the head of a grouse on the left side, woodcock head on the right side, beautiful vine borders around the sidelock action, action tight as new with lever slightly right of center, crisp double triggers with 3.5lbs. pull front, 5lbs. pull back, articulated front trigger, beautifully engraved trigger guard with rolled edge on right side, cocking indicators, all mechanically perfect. Engraving signed by Contessa.
The wood is off the charts exhibition Circassian walnut with deep dark swirls in a rich honey background, English stock checkered to perfection, all of the rich oil finish intact, no cracks or repairs anywhere, 14 11/16 LOP to checkered butt, 2 3/8" drop at heel, 1 1/2" drop at comb, neutral cast (can be bent to your specs within 14 days of purchase), perfect wood to metal fit, all as new.
The gun weighs 6lbs. 13oz. and balances perfectly 1/8" ahead of the hinge pin. A nicer handling gun is not likely to be found. This is a great opportunity to own a fine, AS NEW Piotti with no waiting and at a great price. This is the time of year that boys start buying their shooting toys, so don't hesitate or this one will pass you by. There are very few of the fine Piotti O/U guns being offered for sale, with the 16 bore a real treat to find. Choked just right for the wily pheasant and other upland birds, or use RST Spreader loads for close in work ( for the best in quality ammo).
