Serial number is D3520xx on this Pinned Pencil-barreled Smith & Wesson Model 64, dating it to 1971. Our source for it bought it in the mid 1970s, and it has been in only one home for 35 of its 37 years. We classify it as Very Good finishwise, Excellent mechanically. Surfaces have been lightly polished, but the original, classic Smith & Wesson Stainless Streaking is much in evidence. The principal surface detractions are not immediately conspicuous: holster scuffing spots on the cylinder and light edge pecking, mostly on the revolver’s left side. Grips are Excellent, they are appropriate if not original Goncalo 1970s grips. Apart from the strong suites of streaking, the barrel pin, and the pencil barrel itself, the satin stainless trigger and hammer have only moderate frame contact at places on their right side, and this condition is original to the revolver anyway. Bore and cylinder chambers are clean and excellent. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the forcing cone is very mild, a very shallow crease that only extends about 40 percent of the top strap width, as the photo shows. Double action trigger pull is smoother than normal, and the hammer travels an additional 10 to 15 degrees after the cylinder times into place in that mode. On single action, the hammer travels a full 25 to 30 degrees after the cylinder times, and the single action trigger pull is a crisp and likely original 3 5/8 pounds.
