Marked "Merrimac Arms & Mfg. Company, Newburyport, Mass., Patented April 9, 1867". It is a .41 rimfire caliber. Topo of barrel is marked SOUTHERNER.
The bore & rifling is in very good condition, swivels open easily, hammer is fully functional, walnut grips may be a later replacement but I'm really not sure. Extractor is missing. Not much blueing left as is usual with these. Condition is very good compared to other examples which are priced much higher than this one. Very minor pitting toward outside end of muzzel. Looks like it would still fire but I have never tried it & do not warrenty it for that. Serial number 2608. Only 6500 of these were made and of those only 70% were brass framed. This was one of those guns of the Old West & is often found in books on the subject.
