From its 493,000 range serial number, this Colt Official Police is a transitional model, a continuance of the Army Special, and was manufactured in 1923. It comes to us from an estate in Shelby County, Tennessee, near Memphis. It has a substantial amount original bluing left, more than 50 percent by our estimate. Finish has normal aging and carrying dulling and whitening as the photos show. Right side of the frame exhibits superficial surface pitting from strap contact, with lighter etchy places here and there on the grip frame backstrap and barrel. Grips are original and period correct; right panel has been cracked and repaired, but is fully intact as is the grip screw. Cylinder times correctly on all six positions in double action, and times at the trigger pull point on single action when it is cocked slowly. This is normal on I frame Colts. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent, with no visible internal pitting anywhere.
