1878 Sharps Borchardt Hunters Rifle 40-50 SS, 26" barrel, with reloading dies and 100 rounds of new primed brass. This is one of only 62 Hunters Rifles made by Sharps factory. The barrel finish is smooth and retains a conservative 95+% of bluing. The receiver bluing is at least 60% or better, smooth with a mottled appearence that resembles old Case color. The lever and trigger/safety do indeed look case colored. All metal sufaces are smooth with no pitting. The same applys to checkered butt plate. Address/caliber stampings are clear and legible. Bore is very good with good rifling and silver thoughout but with a few small areas of very slight roughness past the chamber leads. Mechanically, sound with perfect functioning and a very nice trigger pull weight (contrary to contemporary opinions when new). Wood is in exceptional condition with nicks or dings confined to the small variety on the buttstock. The only fly in the ointment is a 1" crack at toe of buttstock. The forend shows only about 4 small 1/8" dents with a few mostly older scratches and presure marks on the left side but overall very good condition considering the age of rifle. The barrel sights consist of front dovetail unit with brass insert, the rear is a Lawerence ladder type, with gradiation from 2-7. Patent stamping on rear sight is perfect. Overall an exceptional rare Sharps. Please email all questions and requests for additional pictures. Payment by Cashiers Check or Postal Money Orders. Personal checks will be returned.
