Mossberg recently, in 2011, celebrated the model 500’s Fiftieth Anniversary with the 500 Classic. This shotgun is a precursor to that. From its J497000 range serial number, This Mossberg 500A Regal was manufactured in 1986. Manufacturer, of course, is O.F. Mossberg & Sons of New Haven, CT. Type is pump or slide action shotgun. Construction is steel barrel and working parts all built into an alloy receiver that undercuts the 870 on weight. Stock and Forend are cut checkered, high gloss finish American Walnut. Finish is blue steel barrel, black anodized receiver, and jeweled surface white steel bolt and shell carrier laterals. Trigger group housing is high impact black polymer, with .292 smooth faced gold plated trigger. Note the special marking on the right side of the receiver with the crown and stylized Regal designation. Safety is top tang type. Chambering is 12 gauge; Barrel is 3 inch chambered blued steel, 26 inch Ventilated Rib. Choke tube is Tru-Choke Cylinder Bore, and it measures .728 vicinity, something we call Improved Cylinder, steel, slug, and buckshot permissible. Accu-choke threads on the 500s are the same as old style Winchester Win-Choke and old style Browning Invector. Sight system is 11 post .375 wide serrated top Ventilated Rib with brass center bead and ivory colored front bead sight. Magazine capacity is 5 rounds of 2 3/4 inch shells, or 4 rounds of 3 inch shells, and a shooter will need to install a 5 1/2 inch adapter plug for migratory bird 2+1 shot regulations – doves, ducks, and crows for Federal compliance purposes. Weight empty is 7 1/2 pounds, with center of gravity about 1 inch forward of the receiver. Buttstock measures 14 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 7/8 inch brown rubber factory recoil pad. Stock drop is 1 1/2 inches at the comb, and 2 1/2 inches at the butt, with a right hand cant of about 3/4 inch. Surface detractions on this shotgun are moderate, principally weather freckling near the chamber area of the barrel, operation whitening on the magazine tube and dual slide arms, and faint amounts of dulling to the anodized receiver finish. We rate this 500A as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, choke threads, and mechanism are all bright and clean. From our four decade knowledge of this shotgun’s exclusive owner, and from its condition, we estimate it has been fired between 1,000 and 1500 times, principally with field and skeet load 1 1/8 ounce shells. Replacement pricing on the 2011, 50th anniversary model was over $600.00. We’re offering this attractive, serviceable, and collectable 25th anniversary model 500A Regal for only $ 269.00. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $20 flat fee lower 48 states; $60 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, UPS Ground or USPS Priority with full insurance coverage.
