Smith & Wesson numbered is Model 64, Fifth Engineering change. This revolver and its mates served with the Virginia Department of Corrections at the Haynesville Correctional Center, and they are so marked. These were issued in 1993, the year HCC opened. Type is traditional double and single action revolver with internal transfer bar safety device. Construction is stainless steel barrel, cylinder assembly, and frame with steel hammer, trigger, and internal parts. Frame is K medium square butt. Barrel is one piece heavy 4 inch with 1:18.75 five groove right hand rifling. Sights are barrel integral 1/8 inch serrated ramp front on solid rib, with frame integral fixed notch rear. Trigger is factory satin finish .312 smooth faced combat style, with matching .265 serrated spur service width hammer with hammer nose firing pin ignition. Cylinder capacity is 6 rounds of .38 Special standard or +P high performance ammunition. Overall length is 9 1/2 inches; cylinder diameter is 1.465 inches; height is 4 3/4 inches. Weight empty is 36 ounces, with center of gravity at the trigger. Grips are department issue, period correct Pachmayr SK/GP, but note the butt edge wear on the Pachmayrs. Finish is brushed stainless with matte sight surfaces. Surface detractions are moderate, principally hand scribed HCC marking at the grip frame back strap top. Apart from that, and from the grips’ wear on the butt edge, they show moderate holster buffing and contact marking on the right side of the frame. We rate them as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to check our grading. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright and clean.
