We are offering an antique Winchester Model 1893 pump action shotgun chambered in 12 Ga. for 2 5/8” shells ONLY. This is an EXTREMELY SCARCE Winchester shotgun and was only in production from 1893 to 1897. This is serial #3470 and according to a Cody search is a FIRST YEAR Gun (October 1893). This was the FIRST SLIDE ACTION shotgun produced.
This Model 1893 was one of John Browning’s designs but was rushed into production and due to the action proving too weak for smokeless ammunition. The 1987 replaced the 1893 and Winchester made a dedicated effort to recoup all the 1893s, and offered big rebates to get the troublesome model '93 off the market. Due to a short production run, these guns are very rarely seen.
26.5” barrel is a nice brown-grey patina. Bore is bright and clean with minimal surface wear. Slide action works very well indeed. The receiver still shows signs of the original bluing; small ding on left side; surface wear. Furniture retains original finish and is in very good condition. Shoulder stock shows no signs of cracks or chips; Normal handling wear present. 17 groove fore-end has one small closed crack on underside closest to action.
