ASTON Percussion Pistol chambered in .54 caliber Cap & Ball. This Model 1842 remains in good overall condition; The gun functions well. The barrel is good showing heavy oxidation wear around the breech and bolster area as well as a bit near the muzzle. The bore shows oxidation wear. The pistol is missing its ramrod attachment. The lock plate and hammer are very good with light overall wear. The lock plate reads “US” and “H.ASTON” as well as “MIDDtn CONN 1847”. The brass hardware is very good showing varying signs of patina. The backstrap has the number “26”, which could possibly be traced back. The furniture is good overall. The cartouches on the left side are still lightly visible. There are closed cracks near the plates on either side of the gun; There is a chip above the top screw on the left side. Overall a nice, functioning example of this scarce and collectible pistol.
