From its 1,070,000 range serial number, this Winchester Model 12 Slide Action was manufactured in 1947. It comes to us from an estate on the Henderson-Madison County Line area here in West Tennessee. Barrel was originally Full Choke, and some time in the early 1950s, it had a Poly-Choke brand variable choke added. Length of pull on the buttstock is 13 5/8 inches, with a black Pachmayr 3/4 inch White Line recoil pad added some time in the early 1960s. Metal has the majority of its original bluing intact, with some superficial pitting in the carry area, bottom side of the barrel juncture and its immediate ly adjacent area of the receiver. Trigger guard bottom also exhibits superfician pitting, as the photos show. Any other area has negligible etchiness. Buttstock and forend are quite good with perhaps a dozen small pecks and scours on the buttstock, and even semi-glossy carry wear on the serrated-side forend. We detect no cracks anywhere on the walnut. We rate this model 12 as Good to Very Good finishwise, about 70 percent by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically, and the bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean and excellent.
