This slim, powerful addition to the XD line, writes the factory, delivers all the performance of a .45 expertly engineered to fit in any size hand. This powerful pistol includes the Ultra Safety Assurance (USA) Action Trigger System, loaded chamber indicator, two mags, double mag pouch, holster all in a hard case. In addition, the XD-S offers a top-of-the-line, enhanced secure grip texture for greater control and usability. The XD-S disassembles just like the XD, however, with the XD-S, the disassembly lever cannot be manipulated with a magazine in the pistol. Specs are striker fired semi-automatic blowback action pistol. Manufacturer is HS Produkt of Karlova, Croatia. Exclusive importer is Springfield Armory of Geneseo, Illinois. Construction is steel frame, barrel, and internal parts, with polymer frame and trigger housing. Metal finish is corrosion resistant melonite. Sights are dovetailed red fiber optic front sight with matching dovetailed fixed two dot rear. Barrel is 3 inch with fully supportive, finely polished ramp. Overall height is 4.4 inches from the base of an in battery magazine to the top of the rear sight; overall length is 6.3 inches from the muzzle to the extreme rear of the grip frame strut. Slide thickness measures .915; frame thickness .965 or 1.058 counting the lever crests. Weight empty is 21.5 ounces, with center of gravity at the magazine release button. This pistol has a trigger safety, firing pin safety, and grip safety that is considerably closer contoured than its service sized XD siblings. Caliber is .45 ACP, and magazine capacity is 5 + 1 rounds. This pistol is furnished with a total of two magazines, along with its parent hard shell factory box, paddle type holster and double magazine case. This pistol fills a niche that Smith & Wesson has not yet breached with its Shield series. It is more expensive than, and probably better than, its CW45 Competitor from Kahr Arms. It is heavier, but more ergonomic, than its Glock model 36 Competitor, and its grip safety trumps both competitors. Extra magazine pricing and availability is already excellent.
