Description: Here is a shotgun that we sold new 30 years ago, it comes back to us from its exclusive owner. We call it a pre-870 Express, the Remington Sportsman 12. It has a bright blue finish, and semi-gloss wood finish, where the 1987 and later production Expresses were dull boys all over. All parts are interchangeably with other 870s. Production ran only from 1984 until 1986. Manufacturer was Remington Arms of Ilion, NY. From its B E barrel date code, it was manufactured in January of 1984, the first month and first year of production. Construction is steel barrel, magazine tube, receiver, bolt, carrier assembly, internal parts and trigger, with an alloy trigger group housing. Buttstock and forend are American Hardwood with pressed checkering, and a factory issue F325 Size Recoil pad. Barrel is 28 inch fixed choke Modified, .715 muzzle diameter. Wall thickness measures .065 inch near the muzzle. Sight system is 12 post serrated top Ventilated Rib, .235 high at the magazine cap, with stainless bead front sight. Chambering is 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch 12 gauge shells interchangeably. Steel magazine tube holds 4 rounds of 2 3/4 inch 12 gauge shells, 4 + 1 capacity with the Remington green adapter or plug removed. Magazine cap is old style with inside serrations that mate with the barrel lug’s detent ball. Magazine spring is held in place by a traditional factory friction inner cap. Trigger is .215 smooth faced steel, with safety button behind it; trigger pull gauges at 3 7/8 pounds, with moderate felt creep and overtravel. Stock contours are field type, 1 1/2 inch drop at the comb and 2 1/2 inch drop at the heel, with a 3/4 inch right hand cant. Length of pull measures 13 7/8 inches from the trigger face to the end of the black and white lined brown recoil pad. This is not a southpaw friendly shotgun. Weight empty is 7 1/2 pounds, with center of gravity at the breech face. Metal finish is blued steel, with chrome plated bolt and semi gloss black anodized trigger housing. Surface wear is minimal to moderate, with forend operation whitening on the magazine tube, barrel and slide arms, and occasional inconspicuous finish freckling. We estimate this shotgun has been fired fewer than 1000 rounds. We rate it as Very Good, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean, operation is quite smooth. Replacement pricing on a walnut stocked Wingmaster approaches $800 in our area. This one has some collectibility on account of its very good condition and its brevity of production. We’re offering the Reagan Era 28 Modified Vent Sportsman 12 pre-870 Express in the photos, however, for only $ 339.00. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $20 flat fee lower 48 states; $60 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, UPS Ground or USPS Priority with full insurance coverage. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
