With its extended steel Choate Machine Tool magazine, this model 870 goes from its original 4 + 1 capacity on 2 3/4 inch shells up to 9 + 1. Capacity, of course, on 3 inch shells is one less, and two less with 3 1/2 inch shells. Payload capability, then, with steel is the close range equivalent of 1000 rounds of .22 LR.
