Early Colt Cobra Guns > Pistols > Colt Double Action Revolvers- Modern

This Colt Cobra is a lightweight version of the immortal Detective Special. To the eye these two Colt models are identical. It is only when one picks up each that one notices the Cobra's alloy frame, which lowers the weight of this revolver about six ounce below that of the DS. The Cobra that I have to offer was made in 1953 yet it looks nearly new, as were All of the Colts I was able from the estate of a Colt collector. This .38 Special was aimed at Law Enforcement Officers and licensed citizens who carried concealed weapons. The Cobra didn't snag the trouser's belt or the purse. Cobras were often the choice of a back-up gun on the ankle or some other hidden position. With the introduction of Plus+ ammunition S&W would void the warranty of any weapon fired with even commercial ammo. Colt's reply to such questions was, "We'll warranty our products fired with any commercial ammunition, Plus+P not." I was still a bit queasy about this in my own DS until I saw my FTO officer, a retired Green Beret for 20 years+, put fifty rounds through of 125 grain Silvertip HPs through his Cobra just as fast as he could put them in the X-ring and fire them. Today Cobras and Dick Specials haven't been made for nearly 20 years, yet they are the favorite second guns for old-time cops and younger Law Officers that respect the lessons learned by past generations. One can search the gun shows, shops and GunsAmerica and find them but few in the 97% condition of this Colt Snake. I got lucky this weekend at an estate auction and was able to buy seven nearly new Colts. One went into my personal collection. Four are either bought and paid for or held until payday by local LEOs and I have two left to sell on GunsAmerica. The slow buyer gets hind teat or nothing. Colt quit making small frame Double Action revolvers in 1999, and those on the market can only continue to go up and up.
