Fox Custom X Grade 16ga. ENGLISH STOCK, OLIN ENGRAVED, GORGEOUS
This fine Fox, serial number 300870, began life in 1918 as an A Grade 16ga, a time when some of the best Fox guns were produced. I purchased the gun as it is now; a well done upgraded Fox with nicely figured English style stock, superb checkering and fit, engraved as by Stephen Olin as an X Grade Fox with deeply chiseled oak leaf style and game scenes on both sides, the bottom of the receiver, and the trigger guard bow. Wonderfully balanced and tuned for your shooting needs, gorgeous case colors, perfect screws, this is a gun that will always be desired by the shooter/collector. It is a great investment that will allow you to use and enjoy its shooting qualities and beauty while it earns you money. This is a tremendous buy on a great Fox that will be the envy of all your shooting buddies.
The 28” Krupp Steel barrels have great bores, choked IC/IM (.009/.029, can be altered for about $60 per barrel), internal bore diameter of .658 each barrel, minimum barrel wall thickness 38 thousandths both barrels, 99% rust blued, 2 ¾” chambers with lengthened forcing cones, no dents or dings, ribs tight and barrels ring true, barrels fit tight on breech face, a nice set of barrels. There is a 2” wedge of engraving on the breech end, nicely done. This gun is set up for upland and clays, and is a soft shooting, great patterning gun with its long forcing cones and excellent chokes.
The receiver has 100% gorgeous bone and charcoal case colors, perfect screws, action tight with lever right of center, extractors, really fantastic, well executed, deep cut engraving with a great fox circling a quail on the bottom plate, double triggers with crisp pulls, game scene engraved long tang trigger guard with 100% blue, a really great upgrade completed by a well known traditional engraver.
The upgraded wood is very well figured American Walnut with lots of fiddleback, really superior checkering, 99% oil finish, no dings, cracks, splits, or repairs, English style grip with fully checkered splinter forend, 14 5/8” LOP to a ½” brown Pachmyer pad, 14 1/8” LOP to the end of the wood (can be easily lengthened to as much as 15 1/8” LOP with the addition of a 1” pad like a Silvers, or shortened by addition of a Fox butt plate), 2 ¼” drop at heel, 1 9/16” drop at comb, neutral cast (can be bent to your specs for $200 or less within 10 days of purchase), excellent wood to metal fit. The gun is stunning with the case color, engraving, and knockout wood.
This gun is a delight in hand as most all Fox 16ga. guns are. As most are aware, the Fox 16ga. is built on a 20ga. frame and weighs less than most 20 gauge guns at 6lbs. 3oz. I cannot think of a better set up for the upland hunter that enjoys a run at the sporting clays course or shooting the vintage side by side events that have become so popular. And what a value!
There are more photos upon request. There is a 30 day mechanical warranty on this gun. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE FIREARMS ON THIS WEBSITE.
