Not many Remington rimfires were serialized until 1969. The fact that Remington did serialize this one on its barrel signals that the company thought highly of the model. We took the walnut stocked Single Shots for granted for many years, even after the competitor 67 Winchesters were discontinued. This is one of Remington’s masterpieces in the modestly priced rimfire single shot rifle line, the Model 41 Targetmaster. Mechanism is pull-knob cocker with a generously sized safety lever on the knob. Sights are blue spring steel step-elevator rear notch with brass bead milled blue steel front. Barrel measures 27 inches from bolt face to muzzle. Stock is one piece American Walnut, original 13 1/2 inch length of pull with factory original buttplate. This is a career hunting rifle from the estate of one of our local residents. Metal is a nice brown patina throughout with some original bluing remaining on the rear sight, bolt handle, and safety lever. Buttstock has extensive moderate scouring and pecking, but no cracks or major gouges. We classify it as Good finishwise; photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Date Code is E E, manufactured October of 1936, and serial number is relatively low, 191000 range, so this specimen is from the First Year of Production.
