The .22 LR caliber 702 Plinkster, writes the Importer, Mossberg International, is made to the high standards of quality of Mossberg international with the balance, feel and accuracy of rifles costing much more. Whether hunting small game, serious marksmanship practice or just plinking around, the 702 Plinkster fits the bill. It features an automatic bolt lock keeping the bolt open, after the last shot is fired from the magazine. We note that the manufacturer is CBC of Ribeirão Pires, Brazil, the company that brought us the fine little Nylon 66 copies in the 1980s. As far as specs, type is blowback action semi-auto rifle, capacity 10 + 1 rounds of .22 Long Rifle High Velocity Ammunition, detachable magazine fed, synthetic Schnabel black composite stock, pushbutton safety, 18 inch 1:16 six groove rifled barrel with ramped blade front sight and Nylon 66 style Windage and Elevation adjustable rear sight. Weight empty is only 4 1/2 pounds, with the center of gravity under the front of the receiver. Length of pull is a very adult size 14 1/4 inches from the trigger face to the end of the buttplate. Finish is blue steel barrel, white steel bolt, and black anodized alloy receiver. This rifle is what we call a factory demo. It served as a showgirl with Mossberg’s sales force at trade shows and on the road, signified by the factory’s U mark on the receiver. It is in its factory box with lock, magazine, protective papers, and instruction manual that contains Mossberg’s warranty statement. Surface detractions are minimal, as the photos show, only faint occasional edge whitening and stock streaking. We rate it as Excellent, 90 to 95 percent vicinity, with really no more shelf wear than a person finds on display specimens in a store. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean.
