Here is Marlin’s model 336 Lever Action, chambered in .30-30 Winchester caliber, with Walnut Stock and Stainless Steel finish Manufacturer and warrantor is nominally Marlin Firearms of North Haven, CT, and the barrel is so marked. Actual production, however, is at the Remington plant in Ilion, New York. Type is lever action repeating rifle. Construction is entirely steel metal, with American Black Walnut stock and forend. Barrel is 20 1/4 inch, with 1:10 Micro-Groove twelve groove rifling. Sights are hooded screw-on steel front with classic step-elevator adjustable buckhorn folding rear sight. Forend to barrel band is equipped with a QD swivel stud, and so is the buttstock. Receiver is flat topped blue steel, 4 position drilled to accept Weaver 63B type bases, 336 and 1894 type see-through scope rings, or best, Leupold steel 49987 one piece Redfield JR type base. Caliber, of course, is .30-30 Winchester, and the standard carbine magazine holds 6 rounds,6+1 total capacity. Trigger is .275 smooth faced steel, gauges at a stiff but safe 6 pounds with minimal creep. Buttstock length of pull is 13 1/2 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 3/4 inch factory recoil pad. Overall length is 39 1/2 inches, and weight empty is 7 pounds, with center of gravity at the lever pivot strut. Weight empty is 6 pounds 11 ounces, with the center of gravity at the lever bolt. Hammer is 3 position serrated spur type, with half cock position, and a factory offset hammer extension or spur is included. Safety system is lever safety plus cross-receiver push button safety for right handed shooters. Finish is brushed surface stainless, with select nickel parts; blued sights, and stock finish is machine cut checkering with Mar-shield satin. This rifle comes to us from one of our dealer colleagues. From its MR35000B range serial number, it was manufactured in late 2013 or early 2014. If it was ever fired, it was fewer than 20 times. Loading gate does not show any evidence of being loaded, but the hammer face shows some bolt contact streaking. We rate it as Near Mint and unfired in box, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
