Description: General Specs: Fox, Year 1906, 12 Gauge, 7lbs, IC/M, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 3 1/8", DAC 1 15/16"

Ansley H. Fox opened the doors of the A.H. Fox Gun Co. in Philadelphia Pennsylvania sometime in 1906 after closing out the Philadelphia Arms Co. at about the same time. The early Fox guns were completed under the micro-management of old Ansley himself, and I believe his earliest guns were the very best. It is most noticeable when you disassemble a gun like this C Grade, as the parts are all finely polished and well finished compared to guns 10 years later. This gorgeous early C Grade, sn2252 built in 1906 or 1907 (no records exist from these early guns), is a perfect example of the quality that went into the early Fox guns. Beautifully figured French walnut and the early style engraving is stunning. The earliest C Grade guns had full coverage scroll on the sides of the receiver, with the “Ansley H. Fox” nicely engraved in a banner style. I find it much more appealing than the C Grade patterns you see on later guns. In addition, these early guns had a wonderful game scene vignette on the trigger guard bow showing a duck in flight over a marsh scene, and two mini-vignettes on the right and left breech balls showing quail and woodcock. Even the safety button and triggers are noticeably more finely sculpted and shaped. This gun has all the original factory parts intact. She came to us in very tight condition lacking much, if any, factory finishes. Due to the rarity of these early 4-digit serial numbered guns, I decided we would undertake a full, historically correct restoration of the gun to bring her back to her glory days looking like she just left the factory. Turnbull Restorations did the charcoal blue trigger guard and bone and charcoal case colors, both correct for the period of manufacture. The screws, wood-to-metal fit, and mechanics are all near perfect on this 112-year old Fox. The triggers are super crisp, barrels are tight on the breech face with lever well right of center, the ribs are tight on the 28” Krupp steel barrels, the bores are mirror perfect, and there never were any pits or deep marks in the wood or metal. This fine Fox came out absolutely stunning and is a grand representation of what Ansley H. Fox’s earliest work looked like. Because we stripped, ultrasonic cleaned, inspected, and properly lubricated the action, this is a VFI CERTIFIED gun and has a 90-day mechanical warranty. Any serious Fox collector should respect and admire this fine early C Grade Fox and consider it a very strong investment quality Philly Fox. My guess is this gun will not take long to sell, so don’t hesitate or a very rare opportunity will slip away. Thanks for looking!
