Description:
Demand and technology led to the creation of the Air Crewman series of light weight revolvers issued to Air Corpsmen during World War II, and popular civilian demand led first to the creation of the steel frame compact Chief's Special .38s after the war, and to the introduction of the Chief's Special Airweight in 1951. The Airweight Chief was available only in nickel, for those desiring a more durable finish, until a limited run of 637 with buffed alloy frames in 1989. By 1996, Smith & Wesson felt the heat from their Brazilian nieces and nephews marketed under the Taurus name, and began regular production of the first variant, 637-1, of the .38 Chiefs Special Airweight Stainless, with steel barrel and cylinder and specially coated alloy main frame. The reconfigured, strengthened J size frame could also withstand +P ammunition. In 2002, Smith & Wesson added the internal lock, hence the 637-2 numbered model designation. Specs are traditional double- and single-action revolver with 5 shot cylinder capacity. Hammer and trigger are MIM, metal-injected-molded case colored, .312 wide smooth combat trigger and serrated spur hammer, .241 wide by .450 long spur. Weight empty is only 15 ounces, just 10% more than the rather pricey Air Lite M&P revolvers. Grips are pliable, sure-gripping factory boot grips, new style with stippled texture on both panels. This particular 637 comes to us through Smith & Wesson channels. Its product code is 163050, but this one was overlabeled as 663050 at the factory. That indicates what we call demo status, probably as a sales rep’s sample or showpiece at a trade show. Surface detractions are minimal, principally cylinder rotation marking, and not really any more than its brand new mates we’ve sold in abundance. We rate it as Excellent, perhaps Near Mint in Box, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is in its original box with its instruction manual, NRA Flyer, and Never Executed Factory Registration Card. It also has both keys for its internal lock, and Fired Brass Envelope dated from November of 2012. Replacement pricing on these in our area is well over $500, if a person can even find one. We're offering the 637-2 in the photos, however, for only $ 419.00 California civilians please make sure your FFL will transfer with the 6 prefix overlabel. sku 163050 is on the CA DOJ Roster.

Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
