We are offering a French Berthier Saddle Ring Carbine Model 1916 rifle chambered in 8mm Lebel caliber. This is an early version manufactured by Nationale d’Armes Chtellerault (MAC). This rifle has matching numbers in all but one spot; A VERY COLLECTIBLE EXAMPLE!
This rifle has matching numbers on Receiver, Barrel, Stock, Trigger Guard, Front Bayonet Band, Bolt, Bolt Assembly, Ladder sight and Butt Plate. The only place the numbers don’t match Is on the second barrel band. Magazine marked “MAC”.
18 ½” barrel is very good retaining most of its armory bluing with some light wear; loss towards muzzle end. Bore is bright with minor wear and very strong rifling. Receiver, like barrel, retains most of its bluing with some light freckling. One screw appears to be missing on right side of receiver. Bolt assembly looks quite nice and still shines! Action works properly and appears to be perfectly functional. The furniture shows battle wear with dings and dents but no cracks, chips or breaks. Bottom of fore-end shows possible arsenal repair.
