Nice early Marlin 336 Sporting Carbine in the first full year of .35 Remington chambering. The Sporting Carbine has the 20" round tapered barrel with 2/3 magazine (the barrel is marked 336A, which is correct for the early Sporting Carbines).
Serial number has a 'J' prefix which puts year of manufacture in 1952.
Stock has been shortened and a Pachmayr recoil pad installed. Overall length of pull is 13 1/2" over the pad, perfect for younger or smaller shooters. The gun was also reblued many years ago, but it was done professionally. Barrel markings are legible, screw holes are not badly dished. It is equipped with a Williams receiver peep sight.
This is a shooter-grade Marlin 336, but it is absolutely ready to bust hogs for another 60 years.
