From its original family of ownership, natives of the Ozark foothills in Southern Missouri, comes this specimen of the Remington model 41 Targetmaster. The 41 Remington was a well made, Depression Era invention, with only a brief run from 1936 until 1939. From this specimens’ D E date code, it was manufactured in September of 1936. Manufacturer was Remington Arms of Ilion, NY. Construction is entirely steel metal, with one piece walnut stock. Type is bolt action single shot Rimfire rifle, with pull knob cocking system and collar type bolt safety. Barrel measures 27 inches from muzzle to breech face, 1:18 right hand 6 groove rifling. Sights are dovetailed, rounded top blade steel front, with double screw mounted, step elevator steel rear. Buttstock length of pull is 13 1/2 inches from the trigger face to the end of the factory butt plate. Weight empty is 5 pounds 5 ounces, with center of gravity at the rear sight and stock bolt. From its original blued finish, barrel and receiver surfaces are now majority brown patina, with perhaps 20 percent of it with an etchy texture. Note that the safety collar and safety are replacement, perhaps from the 1950s; and the pull knob is a home fitted brass replacement. Buttstock is well but evenly worn, with superficial grain and age cracking near the buttplate, but no separation in any of them. We rate this model 41 as Good, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Safety requires two hands, or considerable doing, to engage or disengage it; this rifle’s owner family simply did not cock it until their dogs treed. We’re offering this Depression Era Model 41 Remington for only $ 139.00.
