Here is the gun for you. This is a true collectors gun! It is a semi auto 9 mm Browning Hi-Power Silver Chrome pistol customized by Austin Behlert of NJ. A great gun by a great gunsmith. First, Browning discontinued making the Hi-Power Silver Chrome several years ago. This gun was originally made in Belgium. Secondly, it was customized by the famous pistolsmith Austin Behlert, who is now deceased. Austin Behlert began gunsmithing in 1939. After serving in WWII he worked as a tool designer and draftsman. He went into business fulltime as a gunsmith in 1957. His N frame short barrel conversions, Mini Combat 45's and Mini combat 9mm's are why SW offers short barrel N frames and compact semi autos, and Colt has the Officer/Defender/New Agent. He comes from an era of hand fabrication which is seldom seen today except by a small percentage of the top gunsmiths. His specialty was what at the time was called Chopped & Channeled pistols of the handgun world . He made compact 9MM conversion and 45ACP conversions BEFORE ANY factory made them available. He went to Camp Perry for years to support the Target shooters. Austin Behlert charged $900 for the conversion back in 1983. Austin passed away in October 2005. Take a look at the picture of the two Hi-Powers. One is the factory original Hi-power silver chrome and the other is the customized Hi-power that Austin made. You can see the cut down size difference. Some of the other customization includes the trigger job, hooked trigger guard, hand checkered front strap and rear of frame, new sights (Bo-Mar?) and lightened hammer. Gun has adjsutable rear sights and red ramp front sight. Includes the hardwood display case. Size of the gun is: 2 ½” barrel 6” overall 4 ½ “ tall Gun has been shot but is very clean and tight.
