Description:
We are offering a Mauser Model 98 rifle marked “dot” and “1944”. It is unmarked, but I believe this rifle is chambered in the 8(7.92)mm caliber. This war era rifle is in fair to good condition. The 24.5” barrel and receiver show moderate to heavy pitting in places. The bore is good with some light scattered pitting. This stock appears to have been sporterized and is in very good condition. It shows handling wear consistent with age. The recoil pad needs to be replaced. Bolt action still works smooth and properly. Safety is in working condition as well. Appears to have original rear adjustable and front fixed sights.
Markings: The rifle shows the serial number “2253” on the left side of the barrel near the receiver. Right side of barrel has one eagle; another eagle graces the left side of the receiver. The top of the receiver is marked “dot” and “1944”. The right side of the receiver has two more matching eagles. The bolt is marked with a matching serial number to the barrel. The top of the action housing is marked with an eagle. The bottom “magazine” cover is marked “LU” and there is a small cartouche on the stock behind the trigger. It appears to be a crown with a “K” or an “R”.
