LG0227 From its BW date code, this Remington pre-Special-Purpose model 700 BDL was manufactured in January of 1972, just as the US Marine Corps was winding down its sniper tactics in Vietnam. Although those rifles were mostly chambered in .308 Winchester, this civilian issued model 700 is very similar, and chambered in the caliber that our forces are just now adopting in Afghanistan. Action configuration is long action 700, BDL variant with dropping floorplate and 3 round internal magazine; yet this civilian rifle is striking since it’s a BDL with a hardwood stock, similar to the military issue rifles. Metal finish, furnthermore, is matte parkerized. Surface detractions are moderate, faint inconspicuous amounts of toning on the barrel finish with finish weakness at its muzzle, and extensive light scouring to the press-checkered hardwood buttstock. The factory recoil pad is from Pachmayr, but marked Remington; and length of pull measures 13 1/4 inches from the serrated face of the adjustable trigger to the end of the recoil pad. We rate this 700 as Very Good, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. This rifle is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. This is a locally owned deer rifle whose owner was not a reloader, and from our knowledge of its exclusive ownership family, it has been fired fewer than 100 rounds. Barrel length is 24 inches, and note the bedding studs in the stock. We’re offering this Vietnam Era 700 Special Purpose type .300 Magnum for only $ 589.00.
