From its fourth year of production, part of a brief run that only lasted eight years, comes this authentic Model P-88 Pistol manufactured by Carl Walther GMBH in Thuringia, Germany. KB German date code identifies this specimen as manufactured in 1991. This pistol comes to us from a tour of duty with the Mishteret Y’Israel, the Jerusalem District civilian police in the Land of Israel. Its design represents not only German Engineering genius, but also a transition from the P-38 design as Walther entered the competition for what we called Wonder Nine pistols in the 1980s. Action is traditional double action semi-auto; from a resting hammer, a long double action pull on the first shot, and then the hammer stays cocked for single action shooting until the operator engages the ambidextrous serrated lever decocker. Construction is blued steel barrel, slide, hammer, trigger, and internal parts all mounted into a semi-gloss black anodized alloy grip frame. Slide rear sides have fully 1 7/8 inches of serrations for positive gripping with or without gloves; and the square serrated faced trigger guard is configured in the same way. Trigger is .312 smooth face combat; and hammer is matching width Commander style with full round serrations. Barrel is service size 4 inch. Sights are integral low profile partridge type dot front, and windage adjustable dovetailed steel two dot rear. Weight empty is 31.5 ounces. Grip frame is serrated fore and aft; and the grips are original factory checkered polymer. Overall length is 7 1/4 inches from the muzzle to the grip frame strut area; height measures 5 3/8 inches from the top of the rear sight to the butt end of the grip frame. Slide thickness is .980 at the port, and maximum thickness is 1.38 on the grips. Magazines furnished are two new 15 Round Pro-Mag aftermarket blue steel, and we have several P-88 Full Size and Compact Pro Mags available for the P-88. This particular Walther has moderate amounts of surface detractions from its service with the Israelis; moderate amounts of edge whitening with some whitening on the grip frame serrations, and occasional freckling to its finish. We rate this P-88 as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate; photos, however, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism, however, are all bright, clean, and excellent. Importer marking for PW Arms Redmond WA appears on the right side of the slide. This is a rare pistol. Production only lasted from 1988 until 1993. We’re offering it for only $ 789.00. Not transferable to civilians in California, District of Colombia, or Massachusetts.
