LG2639 Here is as fine a police shotgun as was ever made. Not finer, perhaps, than the Remington 870 Police, but every bit as good as the Remington. Tolerances were closer, and finishes slicker, on the Japanese Howa-made Smith & Wessons. Introduction of the Remington Sportsman series shotguns, however, in the early 1980s gave Remington a pricing advantage that Smith & Wesson just could not compete with, so the 1000 / 3000 shotguns were discontinued in 1984. This specimen came to us in 2007 with a small group of its peers. Surface detractions are only moderate, with faint amounts of scouring to the semi-gloss blondish wood buttstock and traditional corncob style forend. Barrel is 18 inch bead sight Police Cylinder with a .712 muzzle constriction, about the same as a Remington Improved Cylinder. Overall length is 38 1/2 inches including the traditional red rubber factory recoil pad. Construction is entirely bright blue steel, with a matte finish to the magazine tube. Safety is reversible for left hand shooters. Weight empty is approximately 7 pounds. This is a fine, and finely finished, 3000 Police. Surface detractions only amount to moderate scouring on the wood, and faint amounts of operation and carry whitening on the slide bars, magazine tube, and edges. We rate it as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges.
