Description: Very nice Mark I, 1861 British Enfield .577 caliber, breech loaded "long rifle" Snider Conversion, with correct bayonet and correct repro leather sling. Three groove rifling and manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms. Snider Patent with broad arrow mark. "DC" Dominion of Canada stamp.Rifle is 54" long, 71" with bayonet. Butt tang marked "82" & "187" battery. All original wood furniture, brass butt, screws, cleaning rod, iron barrell and bands, bolts, trigger and guard, lock, and hammer. It has the new breech block / receiver. Clean barrel. 8 lbs & 7 oz plus bayonet. Lock assembly side plate stamped with Kings Crown and letters V.R. Also stamped "1861 Enfield" and "B.S.A. Company". A very historic rifle that could be fired by a well trained soldier at 10 rounds per minute. Famous for its acclaim in Rudyard Kiplings military poem "The Grave of the Hundred head". Its former owner claimed he fired this rifle on rare special occasions without problem. I have only displayed it, quite proudly, for many years. Bargain starting price on this.
