Description: Here is a historic FN Browning shotgun, despite its looks. From farm pest control service on a Kibbutz in the Land of Israel comes this Auto Five Super Light Shotgun. Manufacturer was Fabrique Nationale D'Armes De Guerre, Herstal – Belgique, and so marked on its barrel. From its 7239000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1972. Recent importer from Israel had to stamp it on the right side receiver in compliance with US Law. Type is John M. Browning design recoil operated semi automatic shotgun. Construction is Steel Barrel, springs, bolt, trigger hammer, magazine tube, and internal parts built into a light weight alloy receiver. Stock and forend are European Walnut. Chambering is for 2 3/4 inch shells only, with Browning’s brass and steel friction rings that are adjustable for light to heavy load shells. Receiver, barrel, and most parts interchange with the later production Light Twelves, but not with the Magnum Twelves. Barrel itself is marked, Acier Special; with a mismatched but original serial number. It measures 29 1/2 inches, nominally 30 inch, with .684 muzzle diameter fixed full choke, and correct asterisk marking. Sight system is a 16 post .256 wide serrated top Ventilated Rib with stainless steel bead front sight. The rib sits .23 inch above the barrel at the forend cap. Magazine is white steel, Capacity is 4 + 1, or 2 + 1 with a plug or 3 shot adapter. Trigger is .260 smooth faced, pulls at 6 pounds with minimal felt creep and overtravel. Safety is later type, behind the trigger guard, serrated button for Right Handed shooters only. Buttstock is English type straight tang; length of pull is 14 1/2 inches, with a straight Kibbutznik customized stock whose drop is 1 1/2 inches at comb and 2 inches at the heel. It has a 3/4 inch right hand cast. Weight empty is 7 pounds 3 ounces, with the center of gravity under the bolt handle. Finish was original blued steel barrel, textured black alloy receiver, and satin nickel trigger group. Barrel shows moderate wear, we rate it at 80 percent. Receiver's textured finish shows edge wear at the hump, we rate it as Very Good, assuming it is original finish. Trigger group retains its satin chrome finish quite well, including the gold plated trigger. Forend has a 4 inch repaired crack left side. Buttstock has repairs to its tang area, attest the bolt head showing. Buttstock has a 3 inch crack repair next to the lower tang. It is missing two external set screws. Surface detractions, then, are moderate to extensive to this shotgun; the Israelis are not known for babying their firearms. We rate it as Good Condition, perhaps Very Good Repaired or something like that; but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. The Kibbutzniks may have neglected the exterior, but the bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We have test fired this shotgun with Remington Express ammunition, and no hitches. The Auto Five Super Light is a rare shotgun. They were never commercially imported into the US new. Nice ones will fetch 4 figure prices. We estimate a professional restoration on this one at $600 vicinity. We're offering the shotgun in the photos, however, for only $ 359.00.
