Description: This revolver came to us from its original domicile in Connecticut, quite likely the first time it crossed the State Line since it left Hartford. Model is Official Police. For basics, this is an I-frame Colt, same action as the legendary Python. Type is traditional single- and double action revolver, blue steel, 4 inch medium barrel; square notch rear sight and round blade front sight; capacity 6 rounds of .38 Special cartridges; checkered face service trigger and .275 spurred service hammer; weight empty 36.6 ounces. Grips are original factory issue Walnut service size. On this specimen, Surface detractions are minimal, as the photos show. Grips have full nickel on the screw, escutcheon, and logo plates. Pressure marks to the grips are minimal, mostly along the butt edge. We detect a half dozen or so small etchy spots on the left side of the frame and on the cylinder surfaces. Muzzle, cylinder edges, and some of the frame edges show faint amounts of whitening. We rate this revolver as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap is minimal, only a faint shallow streak that traverses about half the width of the top strap. This revolver has not been fired very many times, and certainly not with +P ammunition. Cylinder times correctly in all six positions on both double and single action. On single action, the hammer travels an additional 5 to 15 degrees on all six after the cylinder times. I frame Colts like this one, of course, time with the trigger before the break on double action. Lateral play to the cylinder is negligible with the trigger relaxed; and there is no lateral play whatsoever to the cylinder when the trigger is fully depressed. Bore, mechanism and cylinder chambers are all bright, clean, and excellent. Our archivists in Hartford confirm that this revolver shipped to the C.A. Templeton Company in Waterbury on January 30, 1942. Mr. Templeton was the son of a distinguished Veteran of the Grand Army of the Republic. A devout Republican, C.A. Templeton served in the Connecticut State Senate, then as Lieutenant Governor, and as Governor of the State of Connecticut from 1923 until 1925. He then served as a Hardware and Arms dealer until his retirement in 1948, and this revolver was a specimen of Governor Templeton’s stock in trade. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
