Here, like three of our late WWII Veterans in our own family, is a distinguished Veteran of World War II who spent another three decades on guard with the U.S. Civil Defense in the Bay area of California. Left side of the frame top strap is marked U.S. Navy, and very faint on the left side of the frame is scribed the words Civil Defense. Trademark and Made in U.S.A. are quite strong on the right side of the frame and side plate, as is the V 200000 range serial number on the grip frame butt. Markings on the sides of the barrel and U.S. Navy marking on the top strap are still clear, only faintly dimmed from the possibly factory reblue. The Civil Defense marking, unattractive but historically significant, is not conspicuous or even readily visible. This revolver was, then, both a World War II Veteran and a Cold Warrior. Its last known service venue was in the Bay Area of California some time in the 1950s. Grips are original issue Victory Walnut Service Grips with only moderate scouring and no visible cracks. Casehardened finish to the serrated .265 service trigger and hammer is quite strong, with some spotting and dimming to the right side of the trigger as the photos show. Lanyard ring is unissued replacement but original G.I. This Victory is Excellent mechanically. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent, and the hammer travels fully 10 degrees on all six position after the cylinder times in double action. On single action, the hammer travels a full 30 degrees on all six after the cylinder times, and the single action trigger pull is the original 5 1/4 pounds, tight but crisp. Lateral play to the cylinder is negligible, less than 1mm total both with the trigger relaxed and with it depressed all the way. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is negligible, only a faint flat streak on the right side of that surface. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Despite its rebluing, this is still a very attractive, eminently serviceable and collectable Navy Victory.
