Beretta’s 1994 introduction of its Cougar series retained the smoothness and simplicity of the 92 / 96 series Pistols, but with thinner lines and a shorter barrel. The Cougar’s cam lock rotating barrel still stands as an unparalleled innovation. Beretta followed its small calibers with the .45 ACP in 1998. Stateside marketing endured until 2004 and 2005. This specimen’s date code is BL, 1998, first year of production for the .45. It comes to us from its civilian owner in Arizona. Manufacturer is Pietro Beretta s.r.l. of Gardone, Italy; and importer is Beretta USA of Accokeek Maryland. Type is cammed blowback full time double action semi-automatic pistol with 3.6 inch barrel. Construction is lightweight semi gloss alloy frame, with matching coated steel slide, barrel, and working parts. Hammer is .310 serrated spur blue steel military type, with .330 smooth face steel trigger, trigger pin and grip screws. Sights are dovetailed in black anodized three dot; Cougar boxes bore Italian language reference to Bianchi type for the sights. Grip panels are checkered texture polymer. Grip frame is serrated fore and aft, and the magazine release can be easily reversed for Left Handed shooters, just like the 96 and M9. Trigger pulls uniformly in the 9 pound vicinity on double action; on single action, trigger is two stage with a crisp but heavy 6 pound single action pull. Like its 92 series sibling, the Cougar has an ambidextrous slide mounted safety lever that puts the car in park, so to speak, and decocks the hammer. It has a firing pin safety to prevent accidental discharge if dropped, but does not have a magazine safety. It will fire single shot even with no magazine. Maximum slide thickness is 1.14 inches at the ejection port. Overall length measures 7 1/8 inches from the muzzle to the grip frame strut. Height is 5 1/2 inches from the top of the rear sight to the bottom of the magazine floorplate. Weight empty is 32 ounces, with center of gravity at the magazine release. This Cougar comes with a total of 2 factory nine round magazines, so capacity is 9+1 rounds of .45 ACP caliber ammunition. This pistol will accept .45 ACP caliber Stoeger Cougar Mags, and CX4 Carbine mags. Surface detractions on this Cougar are minimal, principally small amounts of edge contact whitening. We rate it as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, mechanism, and even magazine springs are all bright, clean, and well maintained. We estimate this pistol was fired fewer than 800 rounds, no rounds at all for a Beretta. It comes in its original unlabeled blue factory inner box with both cleaning brushes and both magazines. Replacement pricing on the descendant PX4 is upwards of $600 per in our area. We’re offering the Arizona 8045F Cougar in the photos, however, for only $ 489.00. Not transferable to civilian residents of California or Massachusetts.
