Parker DHE 20ga. SKELETON BUTT, AWESOME WOOD, 26” TITANIC BARRELS
What a STRIKING Parker small bore! The wood is full feather crotch with fiddleback figure, a perfect oil finish with perfect Parker checkering and the skeleton butt plate intact, just about the best you will find on a factory original Parker. The metal is all factory original finish and in good shape. With the 26” barrels choked SK/LM and weighing 6 1/4lbs. it is the perfect grouse/quail gun and a joy to behold and shoot. Made in 1927, serial number 221253 is in superb mechanical condition and one of 1536 total DHE 20 gauge guns made with Titanic Steel barrels, only 469 with 26” barrels, and few remaining with the skeleton butt plate and nice original factory finishes. As pleasant of a bird gun as it is, it is an equally good investment quality firearm as well.
The 26” Titanic Steel barrels have mirror bores choked SK/LM (.005/.012 and appear to be factory by their tapers), bore diameter of .618 right, .620 left, minimum wall thickness 30 thousandths both barrels, about 90% factory blue remaining, no dents, pits, or major scratches, 2 ¾” chambers with lengthened forcing cones for better patterns and less recoil, ribs are tight and barrels ring like chimes, mid ivory bead, silver front bead, ejectors are super strong and timed perfectly, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, lettering strong and clear, a great set of barrels in all respects.
The “O” frame receiver retains 25% case color, clear sharp engraving, perfect screws, action tight with lever right of center, crisp double triggers, trigger guard a nice silver, mechanically excellent, just a gorgeous example of the hand engraved art of the past. There is such an obvious difference between today’s guns and the hand fitted guns of the past.
The figure in this wood is really outstanding. You know, the kind that changes as you move it in the light. It is surely restored, as the oil finish is near perfect, no wear on the checkering, in a word…SWEET! I have already mentioned how nice it is to have the skeleton butt plate; it just makes the DHE. The LOP is 14”, drop at heel 2 ¾”, drop at comb 1 ½”, 1/16” cast off (can be bent to your specs within 10 days of purchase), no splits, chips, cracks, or repairs, excellent wood to metal fit, really outstanding.
If you do your homework you will find there are few Parker DHE 20 gauge guns that will compare favorably with this one. The wood is flawless, the metal is original and has good finish remaining, great screws, great dimensions, and hard to find 26” barrels. There are few shotgunners that aren’t pulled toward extraordinary figure, perfect wood to metal fit, and supremely executed checkering complete with Parker’s mullered border. Wouldn’t this one be great to christen this upcoming season?
