This listing is for a NEW 'Point Blank' concealable body armor vest, Women's Size Large/R. I purchased this on eBay from a seller who didn't read the label and listed it as a Man's Large (or he did and just lied).
So, no good for my needs. But I can do a better job of describing all the critical information so that you can make an informed decision about buying!
This concealable vest is from the Point Blank "C Series". This model uses the "Princess" cut, and "accommodates a female’s natural form while providing the optimal combination of comfort, fit and protection." The vest is size Large, and accommodates "Regular" dimensions. A Point Blank Dealer would be able to describe this aspect in more detail; see the Point Blank website for a Dealer near you.
The vest is rated at NIJ Level II (higher velocity .357 Magnum; 9mm); the addition of small (5" x 8") Ballistic Hard Plates into either the overshell or Ballistic Panel pockets, located over the heart and in the middle of the back, will raise the protection level to III-A (.44 Magnum; submachine gun 9mm). Basically, NIJ Level II is used when the threats are your typical street thugs, carrying lower-power handguns, or when you need to keep your body armor as concealed as possible. If the threat is high, and the criminal is armed with a rifle, then large (10" x 12") Level IV Hard Plates are standard issue. You'll see these large plates worn by SWAT teams or by US military personnel; they are stand-alone, thick armor plates that cover the entire chest or back.
I've measured the Ballistic Panel in the overshell; 17" across the chest (possibly providing some side protection for those of you who are small-chested), 9" from neckline to about the waistline, and 19" from the neckline to the bottom of the shirttails. The overshell shirt-tails help keep the vest from riding up or shifting in some circumstances.
A 5" x 8" Soft Trauma Insert is included to provide additional protection if you don't use Hard Plates. The Soft Trauma Insert is NOT designed to be used without the included Ballistic Panel! Do not expect the Soft Trauma Insert by itself to provide any protection whatsoever!
A bonus with this listing is the addition of ONE American Body Armor (ABA) Ballistic Hard Plate. It's composed of a thin advanced alloy and is covered by rubber to prevent spalling - fragments of metal flying off the plate when struck by a bullet. Place this Hard Plate over the Soft Trauma Insert to increase protection to NIJ III-A, and to reduce the effects of Blunt Force Trauma. Face it, if you get shot when wearing this vest, even with the ABA Hard Plate, it's going to feel like someone took a baseball bat to you! The idea is to change a penetrating, deep tissue injury into a Blunt Force injury - it WILL hurt, but you'll be alive!
There's one little problem with the ABA plate; it's just a tiny bit too large to fit into the Point Blank plate pockets. If you're handy with a sewing machine, you can buy some heavy nylon fabric at most fabric stores, and sew some new larger pockets on the overshell. You can get away with this, since the overshell does not provide any protection whatsoever.
There it is! A Women's Large/R Vest, and a bonus ABA Hard plate!
Sorry, but no trades! I need the money!
