Comments: August 2002, Charlton Heston was the featured guest at a Birthday/fundraising event for our then Senator Larry Craig.
We were invited to the party and were able to spend some incredible time with him. He was every bit old style Hollywood class, something missing in most of the
entertainers today. As we chatted, I asked Kayne Robinson (VP of the NRA) if I could get my Kentucky Long Rifle and have Mr. Heston sign it. Mr. Heston looked up and told me to run and get it quick before he had to go be the featured guest at the party.
There were two other rifles signed that day, both of them lever action guns, but Mr. Heston really liked my gun from the fact it was hand made and had been used. It was the last item he signed before he went into the event.
In the pictures you can see Mr. Heston signing the gun and holding it. It reminded him of the one he held for his famous speech. As he was standing to get a picture of him with the rifle, he put his thumb on a part of the signature. He was horrified and told me he would send me another gun with his signature. I refused his offer, telling him the gun was mine and had been in the family for years and his thumb print didn't hurt a thing, it even made it more special. Both Charlton Heston and Kayne Robinson signed the rifle. it was Mr. Heston who looked at Kayne and said "You are going to sign this aren't you, you're the Vice President". To see Mr. Heston think of someone else besides himself was a testament to his own humility and his wanting to make their day.
About a week later Charlton Heston announced he was stepping down as President of the NRA and would stop making public appearances.
The Rifle was hand made, it doesn't have any manufacturer markings or serial numbers. It has been used for both target shooting and twice for hunting. After Mr. Heston signed it, the gun was never fired again.
I never thought I would ever part with this gun, it's hand made, no manufacturer. I would love to keep this gun forever and have it to hand down to my children, but right now that isn't possible
The rifle is at the Nampa Boise Gun Company store and can be seen in person there, with the pictures.
There are many pictures of Mr. Heston with the rifle at the event and they will be included with the gun.
For authenticity we are showing just one picture of Mr. Heston with the rifle, the rest will be the sole property of the buyer.
