The Smith & Wesson Company is keenly aware of their products’ historical significance. They continue to offer service and parts for many of their handguns whose age is approaching as much as 75 years old. Here is their closest approximation to any traditional stocks that date from the classic period of roughly 1965 until 1982: Smooth K-Square Target Walnut with speedloader cut on the left panel. These fit any K or L square butt grip frame revolver. That includes Models 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 45, 48, 56, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 581, 586, 617, 648, 681 and 686 in square butt grip frame only, mostly manufactured prior to 1996. Model 12 owners may need a substantial amount of fitting, since many of the Model 12s have thinner-than-normal grip frames. Material is S&W figured walnut, and the few specimens we’ve been able to get have more figure than the old originals, with satin semi-gloss finish, as the photos show. The silver-plated factory S&W logo sits right where it always has. Eschutcheons are milled brass, and the screw is blue steel. Photo shows a set we recently got that has a minimal amount of scouring on the lower right panel, only two small places, evidently from contact with a stray screw that got into the packaging.
