Springfield Armory Model Variant Number on this specifically configured M1-A is AA9626, the M1-A Scout SOCOM Semi Auto Rifle. Here is what the factory says about this portable powerhouse. The M1A SOCOM 16 Compact and powerful, it features a 16-inch barrel made possible by a retuned gas system. It is a heavy-caliber alternative for a CQB (Close Quarters Battle) rifle, as well as the ideal patrol, ranch or pickup rifle. Other features include a black fiberglass stock, forward-mounted scout-style scope mount, and a proprietary muzzle brake that virtually eliminates muzzle rise. The brake is key to this variant falling into compliance with California Department of Justice regulations for legal civilian ownership in the State. The M1A Scout SOCOM rifle with forward mounted optical sight base that provides an excellent platform for the aimpoint military sight. Conventional third generation scope mounts are readily available, and we even have them in stock at press time. Benefits from the Aimpoint procedure are vastly improved target acquisition and unobstructed access to the receiver mechanism. Additional features include a quick handling 16" barrel, and weather resistant, accuracy-preserving synthetic stock. Overall length is a compact 37.3 inches; trigger is two stage military with trigger guard traditional safety; action is semi-auto gas operated Garand type, and capacity is 10 + 1 included magazine. This rifle, of course, will accept any M-14 or M1-A Magazine, and they are readily available in 5-, 10-, 20- and even 30 round capacity. Weight empty is 9 pounds.
