This is an original Marlin rifle, not the warmed-over version that was bought by Remington a couple of years ago. This rifle was a Father's Day gift 40 years ago, and it has sat in the closet ever since. It has not been rudely handled, much less shot. It is in pristine condition, as you can see from the photos. It has the brass bead front sight and buckhorn rear sight. It has a push-button safety along with the traditional lustrous dark walnut furniture. It's drilled and tapped for a scope, and more importantly, it has the highly desirable 26" octagonal, blued barrel with a 9-round capacity of either 300 grain or 400 grain bullets. Most probably originally chambered for buffalo, it now makes an excellent bear rifle. Good, old-fashioned Marlins like this one, especially in "new" condition like this one, are hard to find. The 45-70 hits like a runaway freight train, and it can easily take anything on 4 legs or 2 up to several hundred yards. If for no other reason to get one of these, it makes a great addition to any collection of 19th Century western firearms.
