From its only home atop a Browning .270 BAR Semi Automatic Rifle comes this specimen of Leupold’s Best Line of Variable Power Scopes, the Vari X III 4.5x14, 50mm. Manufacturer is Leupold and Stevens of Beaverton, OR. Construction is one piece tube and objective bell, aircraft grade aluminum alloy with adjustable power eyepiece and adjustable objective lens assembly. All components are US made, including the multi coated lenses. Magnification, of course, is from 4 1/2 power all the way up to 14 power. Objective diameter measures 50mm. Eyepiece lens diameter is 43mm, with 4.4 to 3.7 inches of eye relief. Field of view at 100 meters is 20.2 feet of 4.5x, and 7.4 feet on 14x. Reticle is fine Duplex, illuminated with power from a 3 volt Lithium battery, with power assembly visible on the eyepiece. Tube diameter is 30mm, and we are including the original factory Leupold Steel Scope Rings, spaced at 4 1/8 inches on their centers from mounting onto the Browning’s One Piece Base. Windage and Elevation Adjustments are 1/4 minute, or quarter inch, click type. Overall length is 12 1/2 inches, with 5 1/4 inch main tube. Weight of the scope is 19.8 ounces, not including its rings. This scope was mounted once onto the Browning and never moved until we got it and dismounted it at the ring-base connection. Surface detractions are negligible, and lens coatings are completely intact. This scope’s Perry County Tennessee owner had more sense than to wipe a lens with his shit tail of a piece of paper towel. We rate this scope as Excellent, 95 percent or better by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Replacement pricing on this scope is $1,000 or more in our vicinity, and one never sees them floating around in trade or for sale.
