Description: WW II M1 Carbine # 5 085 718 was made by the Inland Division of General Motors at the Dayton, Ohio Plant probably in July, 1944. It is in excellent condition with a mirror bore and 97+ % original metal and wood finish. This carbine is a fine representation of the original "transition" carbines which appeared in the Third Production Block :# 4 879 526 through #5 549 821. Amazingly, it shows no signs of being an arsenal rebuild or a restoration.

It appears to have all original parts including the Inland- cartouched low-oval stock and the vary scarce Inland pennant logo Type II band. As a transition carbine, it also has the appropriate 2-rivet handguard, the leaf(flip) rear sight, the push type safety, the round bolt, the Type II firing pin, and the late advanced cam slide. This slide, however, is an early one without the part number on the bottom. By August 1944, part numbers on these slides were common.

But there is something additional for the advanced collector. The early leaf(flip) rear sight is an anomaly; it is marked on the left side with the "squared S " logo normally found on such sights used by other manufacturers. At first glance, this would suggest that this carbine is a mixed part specimen. However, years of research by the Carbine Club have produced the fact that Inland did indeed use the "squared S" flip sight briefly during the serial number range [as this gun is!] of: 5 037 xxx to 5 143 xxx.

This carbine comes with original US military WW II accessories: 1943 stock pouch, two new condition Inland 15-rd. magazines, original C-tab OD green web sling, and the appropriate "IS" oiler. In addition a reprint of a WW II Field Manual will be included. A fine collectors specimen. See the excellent condition reflected in pictures.
