When our late previous proprietor left for law school in 1984, the younger brother, our present proprietor, began stocking the Savage 110 rifles like this one because they were an exceptional value. We sold them for a couple years for less than $200 apiece new. What surprised us all was their consistent excellent accuracy. We even began stocking 110 LA Steel Bases and Extension Scope Rings for them back then. They outshot the old M-77 Rugers, and held their own with the definitive 700 Remingtons, and occasionally outshot the Remingtons. Here is an attractive and serviceable specimen of the fine Savage 110 Bolt Action, F serial number prefix. Its surface detractions are moderate. Barrel has strong original bluing. There is spotty residue on the barrel ring surface at the rear of the barrel, and two or three small white contact buffed places on barrel surface. Note the screwdriver slip beside the front scope mount. Stock has light to moderate scouring and pecking that affect about 20 percent of its finish by our estimate. Scope is a 3x9, 32mm Variable Philippine-made Simmons with Duplex Crosshair, also Very Good to Excellent Condition. Overall, we rate this rifle as Very Good, around 85 percent finishwise. Photos, however, should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. It is Excellent mechanically. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent, and the bolt body does not show anything but moderate operation buffing. This somewhat older Savage's stock is hardwood, of course, and its current descendants are almost all synthetic. Replacement price, however, on this entire setup is now well over $700 in our area.
