Here is the most effective 12 gauge 3 inch buckshot load a person can buy for potential use in populated areas. This is the Express 3 inch Magnum Number 4 Buckshot Load. Manufacturer is Remington Arms of Lonoke, Arkansas. Construction is High Brass head casing, serrated plastic body with head sealed 8 point crimp; flake Remington Powder; large shotgun primer; felt wad with plastic buffers, and 41 pellets of lead #4 buckshot. Pellets are .24 caliber 20 grain individual projectiles, over 800 grains of lead flying per shot. Factory specs show a muzzle velocity of 1225 feet per second from a 28 inch barrel. That’s a lot like a 41 round burst from a .22 Long Rifle: 3,000 pound vicinity muzzle energy. Felt recoil is substantial, but it’ll hurt him a lot worse than it will you, as we say.
