On consignment we have a Merkel 147 side-by-side shotgun in 20 gauge. This shotgun features a straight grip English style walnut stock and forend with black buttplate, Anson & Deeley boxlock action with Greener crossbolt, games scenes engraved and signed 'Thomas', 26-3/4" barrels, cocking indicators, and extractors. Gun shows minor handling wear, but is still in very good condition with a very tight action and pristine bores. There are some small scuffs to the bluing on the left side of the left-hand barrel (see photos). Gun is choked IC/Mod, the DAC is 1.5", and the DAH is 2.5".
We're frankly a bit surprised that this fine shotgun has not sold yet. A Merkel shotgun at this price is just impossible to pass up, but so far many of you fine people have managed to do just that. Let's break this down. A new comparable Merkel Shotgun is in the $4000+ price range, and while a new one would come with ejectors - how bad to you really need those unless you're just a bad shot, or shoot more than 2 birds at a time? In all seriousness, this is a remarkably fine shotgun with just enough handling wear to make it really classy, and also make you feel comfortable shooting it on a regular basis. The action is very tight and the bores are excellent. The stock is long enough to do anything you require for LOP, and the double triggers are the only way to go on these guns. Someone please buy this gun so none of us have to!
