Fox AE 20ga. LOTS OF CONDITION, HARD TO FIND THIS NICE
Many gun lovers reading this ad regularly scour the internet for good deals on Fox shotguns. One thing is for certain; the availability of graded 20ga. Fox shotguns has dwindled to nearly zero. Shooter/collectors have recognized that the Fox 16ga. and 20ga. guns are the most well balanced, lightest weight, best handling guns of all the vintage American doubles. In addition, it is generally known that they have the simplest, most reliable actions as well. This little Philly made Fox was produced in 1927. This is a great upland/clays gun that will become more valuable as the days go by. YOU JUST DON’T FIND THEM LIKE THIS ANY MORE!
The #3 weight, 28” Chromox Steel barrels have 97% factory blue, excellent bores, internal bore diameter of .618/.620, minimum wall thickness of .028 and .027, factory choked M/F (.019/.037, chokes can be changed to your specs for $55 per barrel), 2 ½” chambers (chambers and forcing cones can be lengthened for $140, but not necessary for shooting 2 ¾” shells. If you don’t know why, ask), ejectors are strong and well timed, ribs are tight and barrels ring, no dents or dings or pits, barrels are tight on breech face and hinge pin, just a great set of barrels.
The receiver is beautiful, with really nice late style A Grade engraving (much nicer than most I have seen), about 70% coverage on the case color, all factory original, but thinning on the bottom of the receiver. Case color is hard to show in photos, but there is a lot on this gun. The screws are perfect and aligned, action is tight with lever right of center, double triggers are crisp and clean, trigger guard retains about 60% factory niter blue, auto safety. This is a really tight little gun with excellent mechanics.
The wood is freshly restored and done very professionally with excellent wood to metal fit, recut checkering, no cracks or splits, LOP 14 ¼” to butt plate, 2 5/8” drop at heel, 1 ½” drop at comb for dynamite modern shooting dimensions, (a pad can be added to lengthen the stock for a reasonable price), one little ding in the butt stock, couple of perfect repairs in forend (shown in photos) and the rest is like new.
This fine Fox weighs 5lbs. 15oz and balances 3/8” forward of the hinge pin for truly dynamic handling. With the very shootable dimensions, great wood and tons of factory finish on the receiver and barrels, this is truly an investment quality shotgun that can be shot and enjoyed for years and all the while growing in value. Can’t do that with a mutual fund!!! As time marches on these little 20ga. Fox guns will be near impossible to find. Don’t let this one get away. The way things are going, this gun will be worth at least $1000 more than it is being offered for today. Have you seen the price on a nice Sterlingworth 20ga. lately? They have gone up 25% in one year’s time!
I have many more photos upon request. There is a 30 day mechanical warranty on this gun. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE FIREARMS ON THIS WEBSITE.
