Here is Mossberg’s new MMR Semi Auto chambered in .223, the Mossberg Modern Rifle. This is the 65014, MMR Tactical. Manufacturer and warrantor is O.F. Mossberg & Sons of New Haven, CT, and Eagle Pass, TX. Type is Colt AR15 platform semi automatic rifle. Construction is steel barrel assembly, bolt assembly, receiver, trigger, and alloy forend cover, upper and lower receivers, and buttstock tube; with polymer butt assembly and pistol grip assembly. Chambering is .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO interchangeably. Magazine is 30 shot factory Mossberg MMR, or new unissued Colt SP62328 thirty rounder like the one in the photos. We will ship with One magazine, but we have plenty of extras available. Barrel is standard 16.25 inch contoured, 1:9 right hand six groove right hand button rifling; with threaded muzzle and A2 cage type muzzle brake attached with a crush washer. Outside diameter ranges from .615 to .740. Forend is quad rail type, with 24 slot upper and lateral picatinny rails, and 21 slot lower rail. Sight system is the forend rails combined with the receiver’s 13 slot Picatinny Rail, that accepts standard risers and rings. Metal finish is non glare phosphate steel, with matching anodized alloy finish. Trigger is .312 steel; pull is 6 pound vicinity single stage with moderate felt creep or overtravel. Safety is conventional selector lever type. Note the contoured polymer pistol grip that hinges at the front of the trigger guard. Stock is M4 type 6 position collapsible, with a length of pull ranging from 10 1/2 to 14 1/4 inches. Buttstock has a fixed 1 1/4 inch loop, so an operator will need to attach a Picatinny stud somewhere on the front for sling support. Weight empty is 7 pounds 6 ounces empty and unscoped, with center of gravity at the front of the mag well, or 9 pounds with the optional FM 6x18x40 Scope. This MMR and its mates served light duty as showgirls for Mossberg’s sales team or with their publicity writers. It has the letter U stamped near its serial number. Surface detractions are minimal, principally faint occasional contact marking on the edges and surfaces. We rate this Mossberg MMR as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. If this rifle was ever fired, it was no more than 50 to 100 times. Fewer than 1 in 5 of its mates showed any green copper on our cleaning patches.
