Fox CE 16ga.- ENGLISH STOCK, BEAVERTAIL, FIGURED WOOD, NICE!
The A.H. Fox C Grade guns are considered by many to be the most attractively finished Fox guns made. There are higher grades with prettier wood and checkering, but the C Grade engraving is very tastefully executed. This is a rare gun, as they only produced 305 C Grade Fox guns in 16ga. and only 202 of those were Philly made guns. This fine Philly Fox, sn300829 made in 1919 has been beautifully restocked with finely figured walnut showing an English style butt stock, a graceful beavertail forend, and excellent X Grade style checkering. We have considered changing the checkering on the butt stock to factory C Grade checkering and creating a matching C Grade splinter forearm to bring the gun to historical correctness but have decided to offer the gun with the beautiful wood it has on it for less money. WE WILL HAVE THE TRIGGER GUARD ENGRAVED TO CE PATTERN BY MID-SEPTEMBER AS PART OF THIS SALE.
The 28” number 3 weight Chromox Steel barrels are choked SK/IC (.004/.012), excellent bores, internal bore diameter .666/.667, minimum barrel wall thickness 25 thousandths right, 24 thousandths left, tight ribs, 99% blue, 2 9/16" chambers (can be lengthened to 2 3/4" for $140 but not necessary in order to shoot 2 3/4" shells safely. If you don't know why, ask) no dents or dings, strong well timed ejectors, tight on breech face and hinge pin, a good strong set of barrels.
The action is tight, 100% Turnbull case color, excellent screws, exceptional sharp clear engraving, crisp double triggers, trigger guard blue at 99%, all in great working order.
The nicely figured English walnut stock with straight hand grip is like new, checkering is wonderfully executed in Fox XE style, no cracks or repairs in the butt stock, very gracefully done, petite beavertail with awesome checkering, 14 3/8"” LOP to checkered butt, 2 1/4” drop at heel, 1 3/8” drop at comb, 1/4" cast off (can be bent to your specs or have a pad added for a reasonable cost within 10 days of purchase), excellent wood to metal fit all the way around.
This gun weighs 6lbs. 2oz. and balances right on the hinge pin. The slender forend gives you good purchase and still looks graceful on the gun. If you prefer a factory correct, XE style splinter forend with the little schnabel style ebony inlay, we can produce one to match the existing stock for about $650 within 120 days of purchase. We can also add a Fox butt plate for a more original looking Fox for $85. In fact, we can make it look exactly like a correct Fox CE checkering and splinter forend for about $1000. With such a small number made this gun will be in high demand, so don’t hesitate or it will pass you by. What a fine little Fox for your upland and clays shooting.
