Originally developed as a joint venture between Switzerland's SIG and Germany's JP Sauer & Sohn to replace the Swiss service pistol, Sig P2xx series pistols are today generally regarded by LE and military agencies, as the most accurate, simple-to-operate, and easy-to-maintain pistols available. Professionals who carry them especially appreciate their "to hell-and-back' reliability, "quick-swipe" decocking feature (eliminating the need for an external manual safety), simple takedown, and well tuned sight system. The P227 is the new high-cap version of the classic P220, the model which launched SIG in the US in 1985 when SIGARMS sold their first .45 ACP's to the police market. Generally recognized as one of the most accurate .45s out of the box, the P220 has earned an enviable combat record in hot spots around the world and in practical pistol matches, competing head to head with custom tuned 1911A1's. The new hi-cap P227 continues the tradition, blending features of both its P220 predecessor and Sig's flagship E2 P226--the P227R fits both P220R and P226R holsters! The P227 is styled as a standard police or military service arm with typical SIG type controls, including a US-style magazine release conventionally positioned behind the trigger. The pistol uses a standard Browning short recoil-operated action with trouble free barrel lock-up at the top of the ejection port. This system is often emulated but seldom perfected to achieve the rock-solid barrel lock up and resulting accuracy that is the hall mark of all Sig pistols. Take down can be accomplished in under 10 seconds via a simple lever mounted above the trigger. Sig's unique frame mounted quick swipe decocker is mounted on the left side of the frame behind the DA/SA trigger. What this arrangement means is that the trigger is the only control you have to worry about when you need to focus on the immediate tactical situation and shoot. The only other control is a slide catch mounted in its classic Sig rear position on the left of the frame. The grips have been redesigned for the E2 series, and consist of a one-piece, modular, screwless, wrap-around unit with an upgraded roughened texture. The 2 SIG 10 round magazines are all steel, very solidly built, and expertly finished in matte black
